Even though this cache is in the desert almost any vehicle will get you within a short walk to the cache. From California City head North East on the Randsburg/Mojave Rd. for approx. 4 Miles. The visitor center access road is on the left and is well marked. The Randsburg/Mojave Road is dirt but it is well maintained and is about 40 to 50 feet wide so even a 2wd low clearance vehicle should have little to no problem visiting this site. Turn left heading West off of the road and drive to the gravel parking lot at the DTRNA wecome center. There is a picnic table, toilets, and site overview kiosk. Please take the time to sign the site register on your way out! PLEASE NOTE : the area is closed at some point during the winter mainly due to the hiberation cycle of the tortoise. They will almost never be visible in the cold winter months. The best time of the year for a visit is during spring when the wildflowers are in bloom (favorite foods for the tortoise). access on foot should be possible all year as long as you don't mind a little walk.
Also it should be mentioned that this is a wildlife protection area. In addition to the Tortoise are other critters, some of which are poisonous! WATCH YOUR STEP!
