Con una breve ma irta salita da Velo Veronese si raggiunge il monte Purga, considerato il più bel "balcone" sulla Lessinia, con una spettacolare visuale che abbraccia tutto l'altopiano. Il termine "purga" deriverebbe dal tedesco burg, che significa castello o rocca. In epoca preistorica qui infatti sorgeva un castelliere, trasformato in epoca romana in fortificazione da dove le guarnigioni sorvegliavano le valli sottostanti e dove ora si trova una cappella costruita quasi duecento anni fa. Ad inizio agosto sul Purga si svolge una festa con musica, sport, giochi ed enogastronomia tipica.

With a short but fraught ascent from Velo Veronese you can reach monte Purga, considered the most beautiful "balcony" over Lessinia. Its name cames from the german burg, wich means castle or rock. In ancient times there was a fortified settlement, that in roman age became a fortress. Today there is a chapel built in the nineteenth century. In the beginning of August, it hosts a nice traditional feast.
