Geocache Description:

A short walk with interesting viewpoints and structures.

The cache is hidden close to the disused railway line serving the South Tyne. Parts of the old line now form the South Tyne trail from Alston to Haltwhistle. Restoration work on the viaduct was completed in 1996 and gives good views of the South Tyne. We noticed an old tunnel on our way back (just by a cottage next to a derelict building)through which a stream flows underneath the railway line, picture below, and any troglodytes out there might fancy a short walk into the tunnel as it appears very solid and well built.
