The man that lies in this grave may have been the malicious killer who ambushed the Queen Outlaw Belle Starr. He may have also murdered many of his workers on his Chatham River plantation. A black man working for Edgar J. claimed to have seen the murders. News soon reached Chokoloskee, where Edgar J. was at the time. Edgar J. said he would fetch the Sheriff, claiming that his foreman Leslie Cox committed the murders. He never got a hold of the sheriff and Edgar J. decided to take the law into his own hands and promised the head of Cox upon his return.
Edgar J. returned shortly after with only Leslie’s hat claiming the body was lost in the water. The Local group of Chokoloskee decided this what not enough and killed Edgar J. Some say that the murder of Edgar J. was in self-defense after Edgar’s shotgun misfired because of wet rounds inside the barrel. Others say the group planned from the beginning to bring down Edgar. Anyways, after his death Edgar J. was buried on Rabbit Key then his daughter Carrie Langford moved him to this location.
BTW last name is not “Blount”, keep looking.! To receive credit, e-mail me with Edgar’s J. last name and name and birthdate of person buried to the left as you look at Edgar’s gravestone. Please don't post your answer here, even if encrypted.
