Wellington City Council, like many councils around the country, has invested a lot of time and money in new mountain bike and walking tracks in the last five to ten years.
One area that has received a lot of attention is Waimaphihi Polhill Reserve. Three new tracks include Highbury Fling, Transient and Serendipity; since this cache was published Clinical and Ikigai have been added.
The Serendipity track is the newest track in the Polhill Reserve, completed in 2014. It is a downhill-only advanced-grade mountain bike track built to reduce conflict on the lowest portion of Transient, between the pylon and Aro Street. It features a beautiful cobblestone section to help preserve a steep downhill section. (Pedestrians are allowed, but not advised!)
This cache is the first in a series of four. The second is Transient, the third is Highbury Fling, and the fourth is Planet Ride. The first three contain codes required to solve the location of the fourth. If you are doing all four at once, start at Aro Street and ascend via Transient (track starts next to the stream), doing each cache in order.
If you are a pedestrian (or a biker not up to advanced tracks), you do not need to go on the Serendipity track to find this cache. It is on a ridge below the pylon, not far from the top of the track. You can access the ridge from Transient either below or above (a waypoint for access from above is given; you will need to cross Serendipity – look for bikes!).
