Back in the Day Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

TexasGreg: This was a fun cache to put together but very little traffic due to the difficulty in finding the clues. The Intternet was not as helpful as I had expected it would be. Closing this one and many thanks to those that found and logged it. TexasGreg

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted location. These coordinates will take you to the clubhouse of the now defunct Skyline Golf Course. To claim the cache, follow the guidelines below to solve for A - F, replacing the letters with numbers to give you the final cache coordinates.

Back in the Day refers to Wichita Falls in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Having lived in the area during that time, I have seen businesses, favorite restaurants and stores come and go.

To solve the puzzle and find the cache, I have identified twenty businesses from that time period that no longer exist. Using the provided area map, mark the location where each business was located. The map is divided into ten colored-grids (numbered 0 - 9) that will be used to answer the six questions to give you the actual cache location. The closed businesses are listed alphabetically:

01 - Best Products

02 - Bonanza

03 - Daniel's Bakery

04 - El Babo's Mexican Restaurant

05 - Fuddrucker's Hamburgers

06 - Funland Amusement Park

07 - Graham Central Station

08 - Hacienda Hernandez Mexican Restaurant

09 - Kiva Inn

10 - Levi Straus Manufacturing

11 - O'Phalen's Bar & Grill

12 - Pizza Inn

13 - Pizza Planet

14 - Putt Putt Golf Course

15 - S & H Green Stamp Store

16 - Shakey's Pizza Parlor

17 - Sirloin Stockade

18 - Tinker's Catfish

19 - Twin Falls Drive-In

20 - Zeno's Pizza

The final location can be found at these coordinates: N:33 56.ABC   W:098 31.DEF

Point A - the grid number containing two (2) location

Point B - the grid number containing the western-most location

Point C - the grid number with the eastern-most location

Point D - the grid number with the northern-most location

Point E - the grid number with the most locations

Point F - the grid number containing three (3) locations

Remember - the time period to locate the businesses was mid-1970's to mid-1980's! If you didn't live in the area during this period, talk to a neighbor, a family member, or Google to find the location Back in the Day!

One Clue. If you have a business location that is 'off the grid' identify the major road it was next to and trace it back into the grid. For example, Uncle Lynn's Catfish restaurant was located east of Wichita Falls on US287 in a pasture south of the highway. This would trace back to Grid 1 on the map since it was south of US287.

Good luck and have fun solving Back in the Day!
