Geocache Description:


This M60A3 tank once stood stood guard in front of the Mount Surabachi Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1346 in Hastings, NE. before Post 1346 closed in the Summer of 2014. The tank was one of several from Camp Greenlief Training Facility in Hastings that were placed in and around the Hastings area after being decommissioned. There has been a cache on the tank since Still Searching hid a cache on the tank in May of 2006, I adopted the cache in March of 2013 and archived the cache when the tank left town in Sept of 2014. I had driven past this location in Shelby early Summer of 2014 and knew exactly where the tank's new location would be but didn't know which direction it would be pointing.

The tank, along with a park bench and statue, is part of a memorial display, for fallen Army National Guard Spc. Blake Kelly, 21, of Columbus, who was killed in a traffic accident in Bosnia while on routine patrol on July 29, 2003. Owned by the Army, the tank will remain on indefinite loan to the village of Shelby.

Memorial

I was at a meeting in the area and decided to check in this tank and found that low and behold the cache container was still intact and exactly when I had placed it when the tank was located in Hastings. One change I made was that there is now a yellow log sheet so if you find a cache container with a sheet that is any color except yellow keep on looking you haven't found the official cache container.

Please respect this area when hunting this cache. No need to climb on the tank to find this cache container.
