Cranes Letterbox Hybrid

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

TeamAlexAbby: I stopped by today to check on this cache. They are undergoing major renovations, and will no longer have outdoor animal exhibits. They are redoing the visitor center and might have some interesting sites to visit so I plan on disabling this for now until construction is over and then I can figure out if it can be enabled with new clues. The back trail and the crane exhibit will still be there in the future but there’s no way of getting into that area right now. Here’s more information. I am only disabling this until construction is over.

About

This Geocache is placed at Willowbrook Wildlife Center with permission.

I have enjoyed bringing my kids here over the years. We have visited on our own, on Girl Scout fieldtrips, and with my Dad. Willowbrook Wildlife Center is a wildlife rehabilitation facility that provides care and medical treatment for injured and orphaned animals that are native to northeastern Illinois. As an education center, it serves as a resource for people who want to learn more about the natural world and how to live harmoniously with diverse, healthy wildlife populations.

Letterbox Instructions

To find this cache, you must follow the list of instructions below and complete these coordinates:

N41 50.A B C W88 03.D E F

There are many animals to be observed in the indoor exhibit, but this letterbox will guide you through the outdoor exhibits.

1) From the posted coordinates, with your back to the parking lot, you will be facing a gate. Take this path away from the parking lot. Turn right at your first opportunity and walk through an archway.

2) After walking a little further, there is a cage on the left. The animal in this cage has a two word name.

A= (the number of letters in the first word of it's name)

Continue walking as the path curves to the left and you come across an enclosure on the right.  This Turkey Vulture used to have a shoe in his enclosure.

3) The next enclosure, on the right is a magnificent night creature.  The name of this night favorite has three words.  The enclosure number is WB16.

E = (the number of letters in the first word of their name) + (the number of letters in the last word of their name)

4) Continue walking on the path.  The next enclosure on the right has another night creature who also has three words in their name.  They are in enclosure WB14.

F = (the number of letters in the second word of their name) + (the number of letters in the last word of their name)

5) After enclosure #6 Red-tailed Hawk, there is a right turn onto a Nature Path. Turn onto this path.  You will be heading east. Walk through the open gate and cross the bridge. There is an escape route here if you get locked in after 4PM. The coordinates are N 41° 50.546 W 088° 03.647

When you come to a path T-intersection, turn right. Soon you will come to a pond. There is a sign near the pond with a red X through an animal.

D= number of  letters in that animals name.

6) Continue on the path as it curves to the left. Soon you will be at the cage of the animal that you are here to see. This animal belonged to Brooks McCormick of St. James Farm before he died. Now it is here for us to enjoy.

Enjoy this beautiful animal.  There is a red sign on the fence with white lettering. Count the number of letters in the first word on the sign.

B=number of letters in the first word on the sign

7) After enjoying this wonderful animal, continue walking on the path. You should be heading North. Soon you will see a path on the left, but continue walking straight. You will come to a sign on the left that has a title of "Life in the ____"  Count the number of letters in the last word.

C=number of letters in the last word of the title

Keep walking on this path until you see the reddish brown post.  Now put your numbers in the coordinates spots above and find the cache! Enjoy!
