Come out and join Girl Scot Troop 1761 on 11/8/2014 from 11am to 1pm. The troop will be cleaning up the Nanny Mountain trails, learning about the history of the mountain, and learning their recently gained geocaching skills to earn the Girl Scout Geocaching badge.
We will meet at the parking lot at 11am and then hike our way around the trails picking up trash. After the cleanup we will meet at the picnic pavilion for lunch (provided by MSWAHOO and CHEFFOX and learn about the history of Nanny Mtn and exchange and discover trackables.
This monadnock is a little-known gem full of history dating back to before the American Revolution. The Carolina Piedmont’s first major industry--a vast "iron plantation" that employed hundreds of slaves and skilled workers. Many historians also believe Nanny’s Mountain was a stop for runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad. The highest point in the county, Nanny’s Mountain rises 200 feet and offers unique views of Lake Wylie’s shoreline, Charlotte’s skyscrapers and neighboring peaks such as Kings Mountain, Crowders Mountain and Henry’s Knob.
