Info from information board

=================================================================================

This is one of the three major ancient temples in Macao. According to an inscription found in a iron bell, with the date of 1632, it’s possible to estimate the age of this temple.

Restoration works were performed in 1818 and 1858, contributing to the present scale of the Mahavira, the second and the third being the Longevity Hall and Kun Iam Hall.

A famous Chinese Lingnan-school painter, Gao Jianfu, lived here and taught painting at the temple during World Word II. Inside the garden, there is a stone table and stools where the “Treaty of Mong-Ha” was signed between China and America.

The temple covers a very extensive area. In addition to the central pavilions, there are also side pavilions, as well as a garden in the backyard with a number of memorial stones.
