Geocache Description:

Come on out and help us give back by cleaning up a portion of the Jordan Lake shoreline. Besides having fun with others and feeling good about the job you'll do.

Meet at 9:00 - please be prompt - and we will end by 11:45 or earlier if we fill all of our bags.

1st in an NCGO day of CITO. Check out the 1pm Falls Lake CITO and look for a 3rd, social event to be published soon after both CITOs.

The North Carolina Geocachers Organization is continuing to partner with Clean Jordan Lake to clean up the shoreline of Jordan Lake. Clean Jordan Lake works to expand volunteer programs to remove shoreline trash, to inform local and state government agencies about this problem, and to recommend trash prevention strategies that will keep the shoreline clean in the future.

We will be meeting at the posted coordinates at 9 AM on 11/9/2014. There will be about a one mile hike to the first trailhead. We will be spending approximately 2-3 hours picking up trash. Clean Jordan Lake will provide trash bags and gloves. If you would rather wear your own work gloves please feel free to bring them but gloves are required. All trash must be piled up near the shoreline and left behind. I will mark waypoints to our piles and Clean Jordan Lake will travel to the trash coordinates later by boat to remove the trash.

We will be hiking from the posted coordinates to Trailhead 1 at approximately 9:15 AM. If you're late, just come find us at Reference point 1 or along the shore south of there.

We'll turn right at the trailhead waypoint and head towards reference point 1, at the shore, we'll start there and work our way south along the shoreline until time is up or bags run out. I promise to bring enough bags this time.

While we are partnering with Clean Jordan Lake we have been asked to follow their established guidelines:

  • Sign a liability waiver form for each participant to participate in each event (this may require parent/guardian signature if participant is a minor).  I will have these at the event.
  • Obey safety precautions such as wear closed toe shoes, gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirt and hat (these are all to avoid cuts, ticks, chiggers and poison ivy)
  • Everyone participating in the event should wear gloves. If you do not bring your own work gloves then they will be provided for you.
  • Clean Jordan Lake stipulates a minimum age of 11 for all participants.

This area is gamelands and is undeveloped. Please keep this in mind as you dress appropriately for a woods hike. All usual precautions apply while hiking through this area. There will be a minor hike involved so please be sure to bring any water and snacks that you might need. Hiking boots and long pants are encouraged as well along with bug spray.
