Geocache Description:

A peacefull stroll at Okere Falls. One of the Conservation Week 2014 caches.

This cache is one of 9 hidden as park of Conservation Week 2014. Special incentives can be found in caches including vouchers for kayaking and white water rafting. Please limit these to one per person.

Okere Falls is one of Rotorua's local treasures with strong links to both European and Maori history and great recreational value.

This is a well-formed bushwalk with scenic lookouts over Okere River and its spectacular waterfalls. There are numerous information panels along the track, interpreting the human and natural landscape.

A wide grassy area beside the main carpark provides a good site for a picnic, public toilets are provided here as well. The trout pool is a popular fishing spot, and trout are often seen swimming gently against the current.

From the main lookout platform by Hinemoa's steps you can watch rafters and kayakers sweep over the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world.

None of the caches hidden by DOPBOP will require you to stray any significant distance from the track. You will not need to go near the water to fins our caches. Do not swim in the river as it has dangerously strong currents and waterfalls. Please supervise children.

DOCBOP placed this cache with the objective of encouraging recreation on Public Conservation Land. When you find a cache, please help us out by letting us know how effective we were at meeting this objective. Did you enjoy spending time in the area? Would you have visited the area were it not for this cache?
