In this area of Sudbury and Wayland (Old Sudbury), what we now know as Route 20 was originally built in 1820. The bridge that crosses the Sudbury River here was created as a causeway from sand transported from nearby Sand Hill (which is on the other side of the river). The nearby Russell’s Garden Center (diagonally across from the parking entrance) has a history that spans many generations of the Russell family in Wayland and dates back to at least 1876.
It should make for a quick field puzzle and, likely, a park 'n grab for most. Upon entering the parking area located just off route 20, you will find an informational kiosk that tells you about our Scenic Rivers. You will need to answer the following questions (which can all be found on the kiosk's sign):
- The National… and … River Act of 19AB. A = _____ B = _____
- Sudbury, Assabet & Concord were designated part of River System in 19CD. C = _____ D = _____
- More than EFG bird species have been identified in this area. E = _____ F = ______ G = ______
- HJ miles of the Sudbury, Assabet & Concord Rivers have been recognized… H = _____ J = ______
Some further calculations that are necessary:
- X = C - B + G = _____
- Y = F + X = _____
- Z = A - E = _____
Input your solutions from above into the below equation to solve for the final coordinates:
N 42 HX.BXY, W 071 FE.ZZJ
N 42 _______, W 071 ______
There are several ways to approach the final location. My recommendation is to walk around! The final container is more than large enough for trackables and trade items.
Enjoy the area!!!
Congratulations to scarhill and beemagnet for a most unexpected and serendipitous co-FTF!
