Geocache Description:

As described in the Mt. Sukakpak Final Ascent cache, Mt. Sukakpak is a glorious landmark along Alaska's Dalton Highway. It towers above the Dalton and the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline as part of the Brooks Range. According to the Dictionary of Alaska Place Names, the name "Sukakpak" was first reported by Bob Marshall in about 1930. Sukakpak is an Eskimo word, said to mean "martin deadfall", which its shape tends to resemble.

The hike to this cache is quite strenous, with a rather steep climb to a great lunch spot. The weather can change quickly. Allow at least 3 hours round trip, and much more in inclement weather, or if you plan on the next cache up the hill!! Wear sturdy shoes or boots, and bring extra clothes, food, and water. Bear spray and noise makers are a good idea.

Park at the large pull-out at mile 203 and bushwack to the south side of Sukakpak. At the first major crest of the hill, you're there!!

The cache itself is slightly north and east of the nice rest spot, maybe 100' where you're tempted to rest and snack up. It is under a large flat rock which can be seen from a distance. Elevation approximately 2,930'.

The cache is a green metal ammo can jammed into the rocky shelter.

Coordinates could be a bit off. Once at crest of steep climb, cache is in the rocks against Sukakpak.

There are a few goodies for the First to Find.

After locating this cache, you may want to continue down and up to GC4QX8J. Allow an hour or so to get there! Beyond that, one could attempt to summit!!
