Lanny Frattare broadcasted Pittsburgh Pirate baseball games from 1976-2008 taking over the lead in 1980. He called over 5,000 Pirate games, far and away more games than any other Pittsburgh baseball announcer. Known for his arcane facts about players and dates. He would travel with hundreds if not thousands of index cards filled with Pirate and opposing team’s facts, history, and lore. His home run call was “Go ball, get outta here – it's gone!” and a Pirate win would bring “And there was no doubt about it”.  Lanny bridged the time frame from most away games being on KDKA T.V. to all games being on cable television.

Lanny brought us these highlights:  The 1979 World Series, and the 90-92 Eastern Division Championships. M.V.P. Awards to Dave Parker, Willie Stargell, and Barry Bonds twice. Doug Drabek won the Cy Young in 1990. Manager of the year twice by Jim Leyland. Gold Glovers include, Nate Mclouth, Jay Bell, Jose Lind, Andy Van Slyke, Barry Bonds, Mike LaValliere, Tony Pena, Rick Reuschel and Dave Parker. Batting titles were won by Dave Parker, Bill Madlock, and Freddy Sanchez.
