The room with a view is on top of Mt. Emily, at Indian Rock. We come here several times a year for a picnic. There are tables on the large deck overlooking the beautiful Grande Ronde valley. There is also a table inside, under the roof. I know you will like it here! Bring a picnic lunch and binoculars, and enjoy the view.
The best way to reach the site is to take the Mt. Emily Road exit off I-84 (exit 243), 18 miles West of La Grande. Going North, it soon becomes Forest Service Road 31, a main route through the Blue Mountains. Follow 31 several miles till it comes to a T. The route to the left is still 31, and goes towards Ruckle Junction. Turn right on the less-traveled road 3120. Go about 2 1/2 miles to the room with a view. From La Grande, go up Fox Hill road, then take 3120 to the site. (Avoid Owsley Canyon road. It has become impassable). Either road is passable by passenger car with high clearance, but a pickup would be a better choice. These roads are open from about the first of June into November.
From the Room you will see a rock bluff to your left a short distance away. You will need to walk over there. Look for a stone with numbers on it. Take the first year on the stone and add it to the N4527914 as if it were a number; like 4527914 + 19xx = 452xxxx. From that total subtract 1822. Put in the decimal points and this is your N for the actual cache site. Now take the W11805822 and add the second year on the stone; 11805822 + 19xx = 1180xxxx. From that total subtract 1957. Put in the decimal points and this is your W for the cache site.
Now, with your coordinates to the actual cache site, walk over and claim your prize! It is in a well-hidden small ammo box, out of sight of the many people who visit the room with a view. Conceal it well before you leave.
