This is a wonderful little park where you can camp, picnic, OR just
enjoy a leisurely soak in the hot springs. DEFINITELY a great break
from travelling.
Grover Hot Springs State Park lies 70 miles SW of Reno near
Markleeville. The first white settler in the valley arrived in 1854
to build a cattle ranch and 10 years later his 12-foot pool began
attracting travelers and ranchers. It was basically a mud hole with
a plug at the bottom. Someone would have to dive down and pull the
plug to drain the pool.
By 1874, Alvin Grover was running a dairy business in the valley
now called Hot Springs Valley. He built a bathhouse, fenced in the
pool and things were booming. It's hard to believe that there was
once a hotel and several cabins next to the pool.
Today the entire valley, of about 700 acres, is owned by the
California State Park System. It was acquired at the request of its
most recent owner by the state in 1960. The view of the surrounding
mountains is GORGEOUS!!
There are great trails for hiking, you can camp, stop for a
picnic, but the big star of the park is the hot springs pool. The
water is usually between 102-104 degrees, and there is also a
traditional pool next to the hot pool.
The pool is open year round (even in blizzards, if you can get up
the road.) Entrance fees for the hot springs are inexpensive. For
more information on the park, dates the pools may be closed for
maintenance,(Usually the last 2 weeks of September) or pool hours,

Email. How hot is the water, when it comes out of the ground?
Secondly, who was the bench dedicated to??
Enjoy the spot. It's a wonderful wonderful way to soak away the
