Alice in wonderland, of eigenlijk: "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is een boek, geschreven in 1865 door de engelse wiskundige Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Dodgson gebruikte hiervoor het pseudoniem "Lewis Carrol", wat een woordspel tussen engels, latijn en weer engels is van zijn naam. Het boek verscheen voor het eerst ter publicatie in 1865, maar was in verkorte vorm al in 1864 als kado aan Henry Lidell's dochter Alice gegeven. Het verhaal gaat dat Dodgeson tijdens een roeitocht met de dochters van Henry Lidell, Lorina, Alice en Edith het verhaal over de verveelde Alice vertelde, waarbij de "echte" Alice hem vroeg het op te schrijven.

- The white rabbit ( het witte konijn): Het eerste wonderlijke wezen dat Alice tegenkomt, ze volgt hem het konijnenhol in, waarna haar avontuur begint. Het konijn draagt een vest en een horloge, waar hij telkens op kijkt, en zegt dat hij bang is te laat te komen.
- The Hatter (de hoedenmaker): Dit personage, ook wel bekend als "The mad hatter", is waarschijnlijk het bekendst van de "tea party", waarbij hij en een aantal andere personages een wel heel vreemd thee feestje houden.
- The Cheshire cat : Een kat, bekend om zijn brede glimlach, en zijn vermogen om te verschijnen en te verdwijnen, waarbij zijn glimlach als laatste overblijft.

Alice in wonderland , or actually : "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is a novel, written in 1865 by English mathematician Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Dodgson used the alias "Lewis Carrol", what is actually a wordplay between English, Latin and back to English of his real name. The book was first published in 1865, but was given as a gift in a shorter form to Henry Lidell's daughter Alice in 1864. The story goes that Dodgeson told the story of the bored little girls Alice, during a rowing trip with the daughters of Henry Lidell, called Lorina, Alice and Edith. Alice asked Dodgson to write the story down on paper, as she liked it so much.

- The white rabbit : The first of the wonderful creatures Alice meets, she follows him down the rabbits hole, where adventure begins. The rabbit wears an overcoat and a pocket watch, which he uses frequently to check the time, in fear of being late.
- The Hatter :This character, often referred to as "The mad hatter" is probably most famous for the scene at the tea party, where he and some other characters engage in a very strange tea party indeed.
- The Cheshire cat: a cat, known for it's wide grin, and it's ability to appear and disappear. Where the last thing that is left, is it's wide grin.
"All right," said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin," thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"
