Geocache Description:

Having been a big fan of agcnz's "It can be done" I eventually decided it was time to push on a bit further, and see where we got to. Perhaps one day we can get all the way over to the Wairarapa. Reaching this cache and it's partner will require navigation for over a kilometre via mostly unmarked and indistinct tracks along a ridge through snow tussock and at times dense alpine scrub.

This is definitely a more challenging cache, designed to extend the Climie geo-trail a bit further. Come prepared for a long day, with a bit of bush-bashing and trail-finding/navigating to extend yourself. Rather than pushing directly eastwards towards the Wairarapa, this spur hooks back north. I'm sure there are more hunter's trails heading east still to be discovered.

I was still singing my 'theme music' for this cache and it's buddy a little further back - The Doors 1967 song - Break on through (to the other side), so feel free to hummm this away to yourself as you negotiate the terrain out on this spur:

You know the day destroys the night

Night divides the day

Tried to run

Tried to hide

Break on through to the other side

Break on through to the other side

Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here

Dug our treasures there

But can you still recall

The time we cried

Break on through to the other side

Break on through to the other side Yeah!

C'mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby

Everybody loves my baby

She get(s high) She get(s high) She get(s high) She get(s high)

As with all these caches on top of the Rimutaka/Climie ridgeline come prepared as you would for any adventure in the New Zealand bush or alpine environment. The weather can change at short notice:

- Be aware of the temperature changes with altitude. It may be warm at the start, but can be a lot colder up top, and far more exposed to the wind. For your own safety, take plenty of warm clothing including woolly hat and gloves. Be sure to check the weather forecast before you start out!

- You're above the snowline here. Trying to access this cache is not recommended if there's anything more than the lightest covering of snow. - In places you may be pushing through chest-high vegetation which means that if the vegetation is wet you may get pretty wet yourself unless your're wearing waterproof clothing. Wear proper tramping boots and good gaiters also to protect yourself from the cutty grass etc.

- Make sure you take food and water with you, and a first-aid kit in case of problems.

- Keep an eye out for mountain bikers coming downhill when you're walking up the road to the summit of Mt Climie.

- Cellphone coverage is good all the way if you're with Telecom, it may be a bit patchy in places with the other providers.

.

Please replace exactly as you found it. The chances of muggles out here is extremely LOW, but you never know!! A writing implement may also be necessary!

Please replace the cache exactly as you found it.
