There used to be a virtual cache called 'Now Put That Back' in this area, but it was recently archived. A spot this scenic with this kind of significance NEEDS a cache, so I am recycling the location! There is a large rock not far from GZ on which the CO very much enjoys sitting to take in the view of the creek and the bridge.
Green Sergeant's Covered Bridge (pronounced SIR-geant, not SAR-geant; it's a surname) is the last historic covered bridge open to public use in the state of New Jersey. Constructed in 1872 on Revolutionary-era foundations, it was damaged in 1960 and replaced with a modern bridge. The following year, due to a massive public outcry, the bridge was reconstructed from the original materials. Only one lane of traffic now passes through the reconstructed covered bridge; the other crosses a more modern one-lane span that is immediately adjacent to the historic structure. This cache is snow friendly, but do watch your footing...loose rocks and downed leaves in the area can be hazardous. It should go without saying that this might not be the best cache in the world to attempt on the rare occasions when the Wickecheoke Creek below the bridge floods, but I will say it anyway on the advice of my attorney.
Please be stealthy and BYOP. Cache on!
