Geocache Description:

Time: Sat 31-Jan @ 5.00 PM to 8.15pm
The second OZ BBQ event and social gathering will feature at a beautiful location within the panoramic Canberra Arboretum . All geocachers and their families are welcome to a friendly night of socializing and good food with stunning views back over Canberra.





THE LOCATION:


The charming picnic and BBQ area in the Himalayan cedar (Cedrus deodara) Forest within the Arboretum gives visitors another wonderful location to explore. Surround yourself with tall trees, enjoy a picnic or walk and take in the views from the lookout. This venue is available for public use and cannot be reserved or booked. The BBQs are free of charge. No lighting is available. The Himalayan cedars were planted in 1917-1930 and 2010. A short walking path leads visitors from the Himalayan cedars car park to the picnic deck among the trees.

START TIME:


The event will commence at 5.00 PM and finish at 8.15pm.
Gates are closed at 8.30pm sharp. Parking is in the Himalayas car park about 150m away.The full Sub- Committees are requested to be please in attendance for reasons mentioned at the meeting.A few updates will be given of the Queanbeyan event to those who are not on the Sub-Committees.If you have not cached within the Aboretum before , try to allow a bit of time prior to the event to enjoy the many highly recommended caches close by plus the many highlights of the arboretum itself.

WILL ATTENDS:


Please state how many are attending in your " Will Atttend " log for catering purposes.Please include all children .You can adjust later if you are not sure.

FOOD:



All attendees will be able to have as many sausage sandwiches as they wish. Cold soft drinks on ice will be supplied.

WHAT TO BRING:

As a large group is expected , there will not be enough seating for all. So, please bring a camp chair .Also -if all teams could bring a small treat for dessert . This could be a small cake, packet of biscuits , muffins, bag of lollies or something similar.There are mens and ladies toilets onsite.There will be a free raffle for all teams present with some beaut prizes given out on the night.

GROUP PHOTO:

A group photo will be taken on the lookout deck with the panoramic views over Canberra as a backdrop.

The BBQ site is also the spot of GCQ1PJ Himalayan Hideout by tankengine.Also the nearby GC2F17E Arboretum Art by tankengine near the car park .A great photo opportunity at the " Wide Brown Land " sculpture and both recommended caches to find if you haven'y already.

How to get to the National Arboretum. Enjoy a free guided walk with one of our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers from the Friends of the Arboretum, or take a self-guided walk, meandering through the forests. At the Village Centre, relax and refresh at Sprout Café or The Conservatory Restaurant, browse in the Arboretum shop, discover the stories behind the forests in the information displays, explore Pod Playground and the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection.
