Situated within Cove Fort, the Titanic Memorial Garden garden is beautifully landscaped and is within easy walking distance of the town centre. It overlooks the final anchorage of RMS Titanic at the mouth of Cork Harbour where on 11th April 1912 the final passengers boarded the Ocean Liner.
The focal point of the garden and this cache is a Glass Memorial Wall onto which the names of those passengers are inscribed. The garden project was a collaboration between Cobh Town Council, the Cobh Titanic Centenary committee and Cobh Tourism and was funded by Cobh Town Council, Cork County Council, The County Cork Association of New York, Fáilte Ireland and South and East Cork Area Development Ltd (SECAD) through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the National Development Plan.
On a bright sunny day the setting and views of Cork Harbour from here are excellent. Within the garden is a memorial stone to Bruce Ismay, the chairman of White Star Line in 1912 and a survivor of the sinking. There is also extensive information on other famous ships that are associated with Cork Harbour.
And now there is a Geocache, waiting to be found. This location is easily accessible by car and on foot from Cobh itself. It is easy to do along with Church Micro IE 03, and makes for a nice walk around the town especially if you are visiting on a cruise liner.
This is a VERY simple multi cache to bring you to the garden and a hidden part of the garden. The cache itself is just outside the boundary. Parking is available outside (co-ordinates given) and you can follow the signs to access the garden. Its right next to the coastguard station so act appropriately. CCTV does exist in the area, but not overlooking the final location.
At the given co-ordinates you will find yourself infront of the Glass Memorial Wall mentioned above.
How many passengers boarded in Queenstown? Call this ABC.
Final cache location is at N51 51.A(B-2)(C+4) W008 16.(A+5)(B-2)(C+1)
The final container is attached to the clue object so it will stay safe but when opening it please don't fall over but also DO NOT DROP THE LID OR THE CONTENTS! You'll see why.
