Geocache Description:

Please read the history of the cannon then go round to the Balacklava(sic) side and look at the right hand corner.

The cache is NOT on the cannon. You do NOT need to go climbing all over it

Please use common sense when grabbing and replacing the cache so as not to draw attention to it's location. Stealth Required!

Between the railway station and the old hospital building, on on Brampton Road, stands a replica cannon.

The cannon commemorates the battles of Alma, Sevastopol, Balaclava and Inkerman in the Crimean War; October 1853 to February 1856.

In the 1990s the replica was installed to replace an original Crimean War one, that stood there until the Second World War (melted down for scrap during World War 2). When the replica was installed it was placed in the opposite direction from the original.
