-Located at the southeastern part of Taipei, not far from Taipei Zoo, Shenkeng is a rural neighborhood and seldom discovered by people. Shenkeng, literally meaning "the deep pit", was once the political center of the Wenshan area because of its important location as a transportation center in the south of Taipei. As Jingmei River played a less and less important role in transportation, Shenkeng gradually became a quiet neighborhood where most people only come to chill on weekends. Shenkeng is also one of the 29 districts of New Taipei City, with around only 25,000 inhabitants.
I am originally from the south of Taipei City and have recently moved into this neighborhood. Although it's not one of the most touristic places in Taipei, i really enjoy walking around here. Shenkeng, as well as the nearby Shiding, Pingxi and Wulai areas, are mountainous areas where u can find endless nice trails for a short hike. If u come to this area with a car, u can go further and visit Shiding which is also very near.
The most famous and touristic place in Shenkeng is the Old Street, where u can find the specialties here, walk around a bit and have some nice food. There are two bridges on the both ends of the Old Street, and i put the cache on the less crowded bridge.
