The Cider Mill originally opened as a gristmill owned by Col. Peter Van Every. The Mill was under construction for about 3 years before being completed. This mill was the first in Oakland County where farmers would sell their wheat for cash money.
In 1914, the mill was sold to James T. Flynn, who installed the first water-powered apple press. After several owners, the mill was again sold to Jack Peltz who operated the mill for almost 35 years until his death on July 27, 2004.
Today, the Cider Mill retains its immense popularity with locals and out-of-towners alike, and is still owned and managed by the Peltz family. Along with apple cider and hot donuts, the mill also sells a variety of apples, meats, cheeses, pies, candies, breads, and fruits. The mill operates during the fall from Labor Day to Thanksgiving weekend.
I host a annual event here around the first weekend of October in celebration of our caching anniversary as the very first cache we found was located here at the Mill. The cache was Mill Corner (GC102P2) that had its share of problems over the years dissapearing. This is my attempt at ressurecting it.
Now, for the easy puzzle. Locate the historic marker here and perform the following simple calculations:
1. Subtract 49 from the year that the Mill opened. This will be the last four digits of the North coordinates.
2. Add 6551 to the year that they erected the potashery. This will be the last four digits of the West coordinates.
