From the parking place continue on foot on an asphalted path to the viewing platform on the summit of Monte San Primo. Scipio Slataper, whose name appears on the plaque attached to the platform, lived in Trieste 100 years ago, and is known for a short autobiographical essay that he wrote at the young age of 22 years, "Il Mio Carso". Inevitably, he has a place in the bitter politics of his city, right through to the present day, but he died with so many other young men on the Isonzo Front in 1915 so one should judge him on his own merits rather than on what others have tried to make of him.
