As many in the geocaching community are aware, I am a scouter. One of my favorite scouting activities is to introduce scouts to geocaching. When I saw the idea for this challenge, I knew it would be a perfect fit. And I found the perfect place for it, too! Here are some of my scouting connections: I am a registered leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and a geocaching merit badge counselor. My husband and sons are all Eagle Scouts, the highest rank in Boy Scouting. As a youth, I was a Girl Scout. I completed the Cadette program but there was no Senior Girl Scout troop in my community. And, although I have never been involved with the Calvinist Cadet Corps, I know several of its leaders who are also geocachers. Soooo.....
Your challenge, in order to log this geocache as a find, is to successfully find and log at least 25 geocaches that include in their titles words commonly used in scouting. You may think that is difficult. It's probably not nearly as hard as you think, especially if you've been caching a while. I checked my finds and found 127 caches that qualify.
Here are some rules and guidelines as you search for caches:
- The title of the geocache must contain a word from the following list: akela, ambassador, badge, bear, brownie, BSA, cadet (and/or cadette), crew, daisy, den, eagle, gold, GSA, junior, life, LION (added 6-30-20), merit, pack, patrol, scout, scouter, scouting, senior, star, tenderfoot, tiger, troop, venture, venturing, webelos, and wolf.
- The words used must not be included inside another word (like den within dent or gold within marigold.) The only exceptions are plural words that have an added s or 's at the end (like Bears or Bear's)
- A specific word may be used more than once but no word will count more than 10 times.
- Caches may be found in any state or country and previous finds count.
- If a cache title contains more than one word from the list it will only count for one of the finds.
- Only physical caches may be used for this challenge (no events, virtuals, earthcaches, webcams, etc.)
- You must find all the caches on your list so caches that you own or placed do not count.
- Provide a list of the caches that you have found in your online log or on a public, shared bookmark list. Include: Cache GC#, cache name, the word from the list, and your date found. If using a bookmark include this cache on the list although it does not count towards the 25 caches.
Questions? Please don't hesitate to contact me through my GC profile. I know you will DO YOUR BEST.
The cache is hidden along the trails behind the Boy Scout Cabin in Lowell. Please be aware that the troop meets on Monday evenings and your search might be muggled if you are out there during that time. There are a nice assortment of scout patches for trade for the first finders.
Rated 3 difficulty for the challenge; the actual hide is more like a 1.5.
