Emmanuel Church is the parish church of the Saltburn community. It is an imposing building which is impossible to miss as one drives in from Redcar.
The church used to be notable for the lone sheep which was kept in the churchyard to keep the grass tidy. Unfortunately the sheep had to be retired to a farm after some mindless thugs set fire to its fleece one evening.
SALTBURN BY THE SEA is actually in the ancient parish of Marske by the sea. Saltburn by the sea did not exist in 1823, and does not appear on the maps of the 1860s. All that appears on the maps of that date is the railway station referred to in the Bulmer's 1890 Gazetteer.

EMMANUEL CHURCH, Saltburn by the Sea, was begun in 1869. It is of stone in 14th-century style, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, north porch and a tower which was added in 1901. The living is a vicarage in the gift of the Marquess of Zetland.
