Tygart Lake State Park arose from lands which were acquired by the Federal Government to build Tygart Dam and the resulting Tygart Lake.
Prior to government acquisition of these properties, most of them were family owned farms. Historical photographs show most of this land was void of trees and was used for grazing cattle.
Our research has not yet learned the name of the previous owners of this section of the park. However, to the best of our knowledge, the primary feature of this cache has never been used by state or federal government.
Therefore, we believe that within the very close proximity to this cache, there was a home which was part of one of the original farms which made up most of this area.
Regulations prohibit geocaching in this area between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
The area is patrolled 24 hours a day. Therefore, this should be a safe and family fun caching adventure.
