People had to carry the rice of 10 koku (about 1800 litter) every day from Nagano Prefecture.
Therefore, this mountain pass was called Jikkokutoge.
Rice , miso, soy sauce, had been carried from Shinshu.
On the contrary, charcoal, paper, etc. had been carried from Joshu.

十石峠、長野県の佐久穂町と群馬県の上野村の間にある峠です。
現在は国道299号および国道462号の峠です。
峠の標高は1,351mです。
峠には展望台があり、周囲の山を見ることができます。
この峠は、かつて米のとれない上州地方西部の山間部に、信州佐久平から一日十石の米を運び込んでいた道であることから、この名がつけられた。
信州からは米、味噌、醤油などが運ばれた。
反対に、上州からは炭、紙などが運ばれた。
往来するが馬子達が歌った「十石馬子歌」が今に伝わっています。
