Geocache Description:

I decided to place this geocache while out on a peaceful country drive this Fall.

Please bring your own pen or pencil, and be respectful of those who are laid to rest here.

The geocache is not located in the cemetery. It is about 4-5 metres beyond the fence.

I found it a little odd that this tiny cemetery does not have a sign telling it's name, so that is the story behind the title of this geocache.

While out on a country drive down the New Mexico Road just outside Island Brook, we came across this tiny, well-kept cemetery.

I remember being a child and driving down this road many times with my parents. As we passed this cemetery, my mom would often tell us a story that her mom used to tell her about this cemetery when she was a child. She would tell us that a woman named Hetty Green was buried here. It was believed that Hetty was a witch, and she would cast spells on the animals of farmers she disliked. It was told that the hens ceased laying and the cows gave no milk.

At that time, there was no fence at the right end of the cemetery, and to the right, next to the road, large stones looked to be falling down toward the field (where the trees now stand). It looked like a grave was falling out, and it was believed that that was Hetty's grave.

Local historians may be able to shed some light on this story, but for now . . . It makes for an interesting tale.
