Geocache Description:

Open to the public, this habitat has become a wonderful place for locals to enjoy  as well as visiting nature photographers.  To encourage other visitors to stop by the habitat, we've added this geocache The hope is you intrepid explorers will enjoy your visit to Eatonton and  help Spread the Wings! ****Please stay on the paths. The plants are delicate!*** See our Monarch pathtag in the pics! To be randomly placed in the cache for the lucky!

A small group of volunteers began clearing debris on an urban eyesore lot in Eatonton, Georgia in early 2014 to create a native butterfly and primarily native plant habitat. One of the goals is to encourage gardeners, students, scouts and others to support the needs of pollinators including bees, hummingbirds, butterflies and skippers to name just a few, by adding native larval host plants to their gardens.

Just this first summer season, 8 of the 9 native butterfly larval host plants attracted adult butterflies to reproduce in the habitat! Those butterflies included: American Ladies, Buckeyes, Tiger Swallowtails, Pipevine Swallowtails, Gulf Fritillaries, Eastern Black Swallowtails, Clouded Sulphurs and Monarchs. As a certified Monarch way station, the habitat documents migrating, reproducing monarchs and developing larva in all stages flourishing in the habitat.

New features are planned for this special place as corporations such as Home Depot, APLA and the Ritz Carlton, along with nature loving individuals provide donations and/or manpower. Soon you'll be able to enjoy, not only the flora and fauna attracted to the site, but many more plants, walkways, a waterfall fountain and much more!
