Great Uncle Willie Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TmGrandemotte: Great Uncle Willie was missing in action, again. As we have no more suitable containers and we seem to replace often, we have decided it’s time to let him rest in peace. Thank you for your service Great Uncle Willie, RIP.

Geocache Description:

At a time when the country is commemorating the fallen, we decided to set our own tribute, a 'No Mans Land' in a better place. This cache is placed for my Great Uncle Willie who didn't return from the Great War. He was shot and wounded in the last Great Battle of WWI in the Forêt de Mormal. on November 4, 1918 and died from his wounds on November 5, 1918, aged 22. He nearly made it through, he is buried in a corner of a french cemetery in a spot that will be forever England.

On one side of the bridge is a sign telling you you are in Gateshead M.B.C and the other side is a sign saying you are in County Durham - land of the Prince Bishops. On the bridge you appear to be nowhere - in no mans land.

The cache is a simple drive-by. On finding the cache spare a thought for those who didn't come home, enjoy the view, have a game of poohsticks.

If your family lost someone in the Great War, give them a mention in your log then they will forever be in cyberspace.
