Oh Canada Encore Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

STATS14: My grandson went to check on my cache on Saturday and it had been muggled. All that was left was the baggie and the container lid. I will archive it and put out a new cache the next time I go for a visit.

Geocache Description:

I have decided to place this cache because I regularly come to the area to visit my daughter, who lives in Lund

I am from the small town of Marathon (pop. 3500), which is situated on the north shore of Lake Superior in the province of Ontario, Canada. Lake Superior is the largest fresh water lake in the world with an area of 82,400 square kilometres, or about 1/5 the area of Sweden. It has an average depth of 147 metres.

Canada was a British colony until 1867 when it became an independent country. Today it has a population of about 33,695,000. It is also the second largest country by area in the world, behind Russia.

Canada consists of ten provinces and three territories. Ontario is the second largest province in area, about twice the size of Sweden. The population is about 12,900,000 compared to Sweden's 9,200,000.

Marathon is a relatively new town, having been built in the late 1940's. The primary industry was a pulp mill until the 1970's when three gold mines were opened nearby. One of these mines has since closed, and in early 2009 the pulp mill also closed, leaving only two mines to support the town. The area's natural beauty and abundant wildlife make it very attractive to tourists.

The cache is a 1/2 litre container with a log, pencil and numerous trading items from my home town (Marathon) and my country (Canada)

This is a replacement for the original Oh Canada cache. I moved the cache closer to where my daughter lives. I renamed it, so it becomes a new cache for people to find.
