Geocache Description:

Welcome to “Sudbury's Historic And Revolutionary Places”... a.k.a. the SHARP Series!!!  This installment will bring you to the location of one of Sudbury’s original garrison houses that offered sanctuary and supply to the settlers during the early colonial days.

Directly adjacent to the King Philip’s Woods Conservation Land, lies what remains of the Haynes Garrison House.  A little more than 50 years after the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, the fragile coexistence between the Wampanoag Indians and English settlers came to a crashing halt with onset of King Philip’s War.  In April of 1675, the Wampanoags launched attacks on the settlements of Sudbury, with King Philip’s army of around 1,500 braves descending upon the outnumbered settlers.
The Haynes garrison was not spared from the attacker’s fury.  The siege on the building that once stood here lasted for a day and half - and included an attempt to roll a burning wagon toward the garrison house!  The building survived the attack that day and stood until 1876.  But, today, all that remains is the foundation…
