POL: Od 1893 roku wydobywano tutaj systemem stokowym i stokowo wgłębnym wapienie i dolomity na produkcję wapna oraz jako kamień budowlany i tłuczeń drogowy. W 1974 roku zaprzestano eksploatacji surowca, a pozostałością po działalności górniczej są dziś trzy połączone ze sobą kilkupoziomowe wyrobiska. Wyrobiska te tworzą dziś zagłębienie o łącznej długości ok. 900m. W południowo-wschodniej części rezerwatu zlokalizowane jest Centrum Geoedukacji.
Rezerwat Wietrznia jest doskonałym miejscem spacerowym (m.in. przez dno dawnych wyrobisk przebiega specjalnie przygotowana ścieżka edukacyjna) gdzie z licznych tablic można dowiedzieć się wielu informacji na temat przeszłości geologicznej terenu obecnych Kielc. Natomiast z punktów widokowych można obserwować panoramę Gór Świętokrzyskich, w tym górę Telegraf.
