Pleasureland Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The Pleasure Gang (Behistun, Navigator, BriguyNY, and Lizrdh) placed this cache to preserve the memory of the long lost water recreational park Pleasureland

While doing our homework on a nearby cache, we stumbled upon the history of a long lost theme park/pool facility called Pleasureland which occupied this area back in the middle of the twentieth century. We found this place to be significant, because many vectors of American life intersected here. Our research brought to light the long forgotten history of the Ramapo River valley as a resort area for NYC and other metropolitan areas in an era before cheap air fare sent summer vacationers to Florida and Cancun; encroaching suburbanization and the evolution of land use; the clash of the urban and rural and the collapse of the tourism industry here, and how that industry died in a single bloody night. Enough sociology though: you're here for a smiley! Cache is a medium size lock & lock well hidden amidst the ruins. There is a silver Roosevelt dime in it for the FTF. No danger if you are careful, but take care, especially if you leave the trails. While here, seek out the other caches in the area, including the two on these same grounds.
