Geocache Description:

Hopefully a different style of event to see and measure the Trent Aegir. I've been wanting to see the Aegir for a while now but a good one never fell when I was free. So I thought getting a few illuminated cachers out at night might not be too bright but saw the light and decided to give it a go.

More information on the Aegir can be found on wikipedia (visit link) and having see the Severn Bore and Kent Estuary Bore hope this one is as good. According to the information on the related web page above the Aegir will arrive in Stockwith at 19:54 but depending to the tides and weather could be early or late.

The plan is to meet at the published coords at 19:30 with as many torches as possible and split into two groups, the second group will move to the reference point which is 1/10th of a mile upstream. As the wave passes this group they will make some noise and stopwatches will be started, the time it takes for the wave to cover the distance between the two groups will be measured and we can easily work out it's speed in mph. If we can do that we can surely measure the height of the wave or make a reasonable estimation.

I'm sure while we are waiting in anticipation we will have time for the usual geochat and trackable swapping, with the job done the event will end at 20:30. However anyone that wants can move over to the local pub for some refreshments in either celebration or commiseration.

As a footnote I've checked with the CO for the "Trent Aegir - A Natural Phenomena" earth cache and the rule about not being able to log this at night will apply, so only one smiley available but hopefully a bit of a laugh.
