Geocache Description:

Turkey Run State Park
Tennis Court Shelter
May 16, 2015
10a until 2p

Join us for the 13th annual Indiana Spring Picnic!  A great excuse to socialize... see old friends, meet new ones, eat yummy food, play games, cache and/or hike the area, camp, canoe or kayak on Sugar Creek... make a weekend of it!  Personally, we consider it the social event of the year! (but then again, we're very biased)

Schedule:

10:00 am - Registration & ice breaker (sign the log, grab a nametag & sign up for various raffles and door prizes!)
12:00 pm - Lunch (see details below)
1:00 pm - Game prizes awarded, group photo & Raffle/Auction
2:00 pm - Clean up and head out!

*Note: We have the shelter reserved for the whole day and you are more than welcome to hang out. But if you choose to stay at the shelter, we ask that you leave the area clean so we do not incur any surprise clean-up fees.

Pitch-In Lunch:

Plates, plastic ware and napkins will be provided. If you would like to join in, please bring your own entree and drinks, plus a dish to share. If your last name begins with A-J, we ask that you bring a dessert. If your last name begins with K-Z, a side dish is preferred -- this should keep the mix pretty even. The shelter has limited electricity and we will provide a couple of power strips, so crock pots should not be a problem.

Participation in the pitch-in is absolutely NOT mandatory; but if you choose not to bring a dish, please let others who did bring something line up first. Then after everyone has passed through once, it's a free-for-all!

There should be plenty of picnic table seating, but if you prefer to bring your own chair, please feel free.

Activities:

Closest to the Pin contest will go on from 10am until Noon. Prize awarded after lunch.

A get-to-know-your-neighbor Meet &Greet game will be available. Once your sheet is filled, turn it in for an opportunity to win a prize (awarded after lunch)

There is a small playground not far from the shelter, to the rear of the tennis courts.  Please keep an eye on your little ones in this area (you may not have a direct line-of-sight from the event site).

We will raffle and/or auction off a few select items, and we will have door prizes available as well.  If you would like to donate items for either the raffles or door prizes, please let us know. All donations are GREATLY appreciated.

One of the raffle highlights is our Celebrity Ammo Box auction. Three cachers/artists have been chosen (secretly!) and they have all been working hard on their creations, which will be revealed at the Picnic. The boxes will be auctioned off to help recover costs incurred for this event.

Notes:

There is an admission fee to this State Park ($7 per vehicle per day for in-state, $9 per vehicle per day for out-of-state).

The shelter is handicap accessible.

There are modern facilities and pit toilets within short walking distance of the shelter (restrooms are also handicap accessible).

A special event pathtag will be available for purchase at the event ($3/each or 2/$5).

We gladly welcome pets at our event, however per IDNR regulations, they are not allowed inside the shelter. Please keep them outside and (of course) clean up after them as necessary.

Camping:

Camp sites are available through the IDNR Reservation website. A campground map will be uploaded to this page shortly, showing existing reservations. We will update as necessary -- if you would like your site on the map, please post your reserved site number here or on the Facebook event page.

Rooms at the Turkey Run Inn can be reserved through their own reservation site.

Other Weekend Events:

Friday 7:30-8:30pm... Meet & Greet for Smarties

Saturday 3-4pm... Signature Items - Trade and Create Event!

Saturday 6-6:30pm... A Pirate's Booty Flashmob

Sunday 8:30-9:15am... Break Fast

If anyone is interested in hosting an event in the area on the weekend of the Spring Picnic weekend, please let us know. Anyone can host, we just like to keep track of events so there is no overlap/conflict.

The Indiana Spring Picnic also has a page on Facebook. Search for Indiana Geocaching Spring Picnic and please *like* us. Our Spring Picnic events are also posted within this group.

Special thanks to the following for providing a donation for this event: Princeton Tec, Sierra Sage Organics, Landsharkz.ca, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Cachemporium, CachingContainers.com...
