To appreciate this experience to the fullest, take a walk down Bazar Road. The loaders and unloaders of the trucks, by hand and head, the goats, the pigeons, the smells good and bad of spices, coffee and dirty canals will show you what Mattanchery is all about.
You will walk down an alley otherwise easily missed, visit old warehouses which used to hold coconut oil and you can sit and rest for a while under a beautiful old mango tree.
