Geocache Description:

A TRIBUTE TO JDLC1936!

This cache was the last cache hidden by JDLC1936, aka Jim. Jim asked for volunteers to adopt his caches after learning of his prognosis to cancer. Jim is well known by local geocachers and many others around the state for his plaid shirt, his bright yellow “yardstick” type suspenders and his unique “walking stick”, a three-pronged pitchfork. He began geocaching July 18, 2009 at the age of 73. His last find was January 28, 2015. Over a period of 5½ years Jim accumulated 15,156 finds and 540 consecutive days with finds all within a radius of a 136.206 miles of his home.

Much of his geocaching adventures were with friends. However, Jim was also known to geocache on his own finding not just P&Gs, but hiking into the woods day & night and any time of year using his trusty three-pronged walking stick to keep him from sliding down steep slopes. In addition to hiking for geocache finds, Jim also enjoyed taking his fellow geocachers through the challenging terrain of Seminole Valley to get his 50 or so hides.

Jim is well known in the geocaching world for his quality geocaching reputation, his friendly and helpful demeanor and for his abundance of knowledge of the history of Iowa and many many other things.

We are pleased to call Jim a friend and it is for all these reasons that we are honored to adopt this geocache from Jim and pay a heartfelt tribute to his brief but amazing geocaching accomplishments.
