Geocache Description:

Medium sized cammo'd lock n lock style container located on the Justice Loop in Horton Grove Nature Preserve.

In October of 2012, Triangle Land Conservancy opened its newest land acquisition, Horton Grove Nature Preserve, a 708-acre preserve located near Bahama. Horton Grove is part of what was once one of the biggest plantations in the South, the 30,000-acre Stagville Plantation. Worked by as many as 900 slaves, the plantation grew a variety of crops and was extensively timbered. Much of the farmland was eventually retired and Mother Nature began returning the land to its original state. Today, the preserve is covered with a maturing forest between 30 and 80 years of age, apart from a 30-acre plot being returned by preserve owner, the Triangle Land Conservancy to a Piedmont Prairie.  There are over 3 miles of trails so far, and a total of 10 miles of trails are slated.  This cache is located along the Justice Loop trail, named for the most genealogically extensive slave family at Stagville, the Justices.

Parking:  As you turn onto Jock Road from Old Oxford Road, you will pass an old Civil War era barn on the right.  Past this barn, there are 2 parking spots along Jock Road, both on the left side of the road.  The first one you pass has room for only one or two cars.  Further down, the main official parking lot has room for many vehicles.  This cache can be a short or a lengthier hike, depending on where you park and which trails you follow. The official trail map can help you plan your route.

Note: caches on TLC lands require a filed permit. This cache was placed with permission of TLC land management.
