Geocache Description:

Hatteras Village is a magical place holding many secrets and treasures. Often people vist and feel the magic but never really discover just how much is hidden here. Walking thé beaches and exploring at certain tides, seasons and locations can often bring many treasures.

Our Hatteras Vilkages caches are all designed to slightly open the door to a view of the magic of this place we call home.

My wife and I live part time in Hatteras Village after discovering the magic and hidden treasures of this place, much is never seen by those passing through. Finding shipwreck pieces, driftwood, shells, sealife, starfish, sand dollars, stumbling across a sea turtle, the abundance of fish, clams, conch, you can even catch your own shrimp with a cast net at the right times.

Hatteras Village history goes way back. The early inhabitants lived off of what they found from the sea, both sealife and objects from past shipwrecks often washed up on the beaches. These objects were quite abundant due to the treacherous nature of Cape Hatteras waters and the severe weather that often happens here.

This fun cache has a theme of blue because we are so taken with the beautiful blue waters of the gulf stream and the occasional teal waters inshore. This cache contains sea glass, which can be found on the beaches and of which many locals make jewelry. It contains starfish, which can be found on the beaches in abundance after major storms. Recently after hurricane Irene, beautiful starfish and scotch bonnet shells were everywhere. Additionally, there is a bag of blue balloons, (think Gulf Stream blue, as the gulf stream is a mere twenty miles straight out from where you currently stand.

These items were placed in the cache to introduce people to the magic of the island and to seed the cache for an exchange of items. Please feel free to take one item, regardless of whether you leave an item.
