My wife and I live part time in Hatteras after discovering the magic and hidden treasures of this place, much is never seen by those passing through. Finding shipwreck pieces, driftwood, shells, sealife, starfish, sand dollars, stumbling across a sea turtle, the abundance of fish, clams, conch, you can even catch your own shrimp with a cast net at the right times.
The treasures of Hatteras are often hidden by the wind, tide, sand, water and storms. Exploring the island to reveal its treasures requires a sense of the breathing of the island. Often we just go on the beaches and in our boat, where the wind and the tide take us. As storms come and go, tides rise and fall, currents rush in and out and wind shifts sand. Many treasures will show themselves.
This cache contains sand dollars (hehe Sand Cash) and a few shells that our family has found during our explorations of the treasures of the island. Many people come here and never find beautiful shells and starfish in abundance or even believe that sand dollars are found here. The magic of the island is in getting to know how it breathes. The sandbars and islands of Pamlico Sound at low tide have hidden gifts. The beaches after storms and at low tide throughout the seasons can be also expose treasures.
We find our treasures by going with the wind and the tide. Wandering the beaches and the sound, slowly we sea more and more of the real magic of this place.
These items were placed in the cache to introduce people to the magic of the island and to seed the cache for an exchange of items. Please feel free to take one item, regardless of whether you leave an item.
