Here is a great parking area for the Appalachian Trail. There are 3 active caches that can be found additional from here. A hike will take about 3.5 hours with mixed terrain. Proper gear should be present when hiking these trails. However, this cache can be found from the safety of your car. You are looking for a key-lock. If its damp there is Rite in the Rain paper and a couple flicks with the hand it will be dry.

The appalachian trail offers almost endless amounts of traveling via on foot through the east coast. Starting from Maine and ending in Georgia gives you miles and miles to explore. If you choose to go from this point there is an overnight refuge/cabin about 2.25 miles from where you stand at the cache. It will prove rough terrain from the start but levels out on the mountain top ridge with some rewarding views. Below is a quick picture of the path.
