Geocache Description:

This 2-stage cache will have you starting out in an in an open air plaza in the middle of the Arts District enjoying public art on display in downtown Dallas. You will use information from signs in the plaza to find the location of the stage 2 physical cache container.

Stage 1 - Start

Stage 1 is a virtual cache and you will look around its location to locate the coordinates of the physical cache in Stage 2. At Stage 1, we encourage you to take a little time to look around, maybe bring a lunch or snack and enjoy the art and the public space. The Art Plaza is located at the corner of Flora and Crockett streets in downtown Dallas so parking is a little tricky.  Flora Street runs between the plaza and the Meyerson Symphony Center.  You may find that there might be parking along Flora on the plaza side of the street. Your mileage will vary depending on events going on in the area. Alternatively, there an entrance to a paid parking garage on Crockett street that is right behind the plaza.

Stage 2 - Final
The coordinates to the Final Stage are:
N 32 47.4AB
W 96 47.8CD

You will need to find the following clues at the Stage 1 to get to the final cache location. Backstory: A competition is held each year for Texas artists to submit a concept, that if selected by a panel of judges, will be featured for 1 year on the large wall that is at the back of the plaza. Walk into the plaza and as you look at the currently featured art, you will see plaques on either side of it that commemorate previous winners.

Walk to the right side of the featured art. Count the total number of rows of plaques commemorating previous winners (i.e. count how many plaques are stacked in a single column horizontally) and subtract 2 from that total to give you the number that goes in A. Example, if there were 10 rows of plaques in a column, you would subtract 2 from 10 and put 8 in A.

As you look at the plaques on both sides of the featured art, find a previous winner titled “Trumpeting Angel” by Ann Gantz. The last digit from the year listed on the plaque goes in B. Example, if the year listed on the plaque is 2006, you would put 6 in B.

Look through the plaques again and find the winner titled “The Dallas Arts District Word Search” by Barbara Dybala. The last digit from the year listed on the plaque goes in C.

Look through the plaques one last time and find the winner titled “Downtown Playground” by J. Lynn Kelly. The last digit from the year listed on the plaque goes in D.

If you need help entering the final GPS coordinates into the Geocaching App, use the following directions

2 - Click “Navigate to Geocache”
3 - At the top of the map page click the flag or menu icon (top right)
4 - Enter new name for waypoint – Enter Latitude – Enter Longitude – Set to Geocache location.

Stage 2 is only a short walk from Stage 1. You are looking for a waterproof case with a clear top and a black bottom.  The case has room for travel bugs and other things for trade. Please be sure to carefully re-close the case after you have opened up the cache.  You will need to use stealth, but it should be a fairly easy grab. There is a FTF travel bug.  Congrats to ARKS for the FTF on 12/23/2014! Also, through September 2015, we will be updating the contents from time to time including items that will allow you to bring home a keepsake that commemorates the art currently on display in the plaza from Stage 1.  Enjoy!

General Information: The Dallas Arts District is the largest arts district in the nation, spanning 68 acres and 19 contiguous blocks that includes world renown museums, performing art centers, parks and historic churches.  The Catholic Foundation's 50th Year Anniversary gift to the people of Dallas is an open-air plaza in the new Dallas Arts District across from the Meyerson Symphony Center, and adjacent to the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Each fall a new piece of art is installed in this unique urban oasis following a rigorous competition among local artists. The 2014-2015 winning entry is "The Dallas Arts District Word Search,” by local artist Barbara Dybala. This is a cache you will want to revisit at least once a year to see what new art has been installed and to experience more of what the Dallas Arts District has to offer.
