平田駅は、東日本旅客鉄道（JR東日本）篠ノ井線の駅です。
所在地は、長野県松本市平田西二丁目です。
開業したのは2007年です。
この駅は、松本市にある駅としては、1944年に開業した南松本駅以来、63年ぶりに新しく開業した駅です。
この駅は篠ノ井線の駅ですが、停車列車のほとんどが塩尻駅から直通する中央本線の列車です。
駅舎のデザインは市民の投票で選ばれたものです。
昼間は駅員がいますが、夜から朝にかけては無人になります。
