Geocache Description:

Take a tour of Tucson's vintage neon signs, downtown! 7 stages plus final. These restored historic treasures are a real treat to the eye. Enjoy!

Click HERE to go to cartridge.

The total distance by car is less than 2.6 miles from start to final, (the route does not make a closed loop on this one) but parking downtown can be difficult. Biking will probably cut that in half. This is not a "loop"path so you will not end up close to where you started. Pick a time when downtown traffic is likely to be at a minimum.

Tips about Wherigos: 1) As with all Wherigos, make sure you have uploaded the most recent version of the cartridge before you go. Often COs make changes to the cartridge and if you have the older version you will have glitches when you go to use it. So just upload it again the day you plan to run it. 2) If you are at a zone and there is a glitch of some kind, step 30 feet away and try to enter the zone again. 3) Save frequently during cartridge use. 4) To learn more about Wherigos: http://www.wherigo.com/

To play the cartridge, you will need a Wherigo-enabled device. (For Andriod the app is called "WhereYouGo") info here

It's logs like this that make the work of creating Wherigos worthwhile: "This is another WIG that is very special to me. When I got to Caruso's on 4th Street it brought back memories of my family and my grandparents having dinner in Caruso's in 1957. I can still remember how special that night was and how great tasting the food was. So today I went inside and had lunch. The food quality has not changed over the years, I enjoyed the lunch and the memories. I got in a lot of walking today as I did two of your WIG's by walking. I walked past the Chicago Store on Congress. I used to play a guitar and I visited that store way too many times. Two brothers ran the store and they were characters to say the least. Thanks for doing this WIG. SL Tom"

"Neon signs are an integral part of Tucson's history. They were prevalent at a time in America when Mom and Pops ruled, and businesses had unique identities that were reflected in their unique signs." Most of the signs have been recently restored, and all but one of the businesses on this short tour are still active today. The signs serve as vibrant reminders of Tucson's glittering past and of the city's heritage as a popular stop for tourists within the Southwest; they evoke an era of fast cars and a slower pace of life. It is surprising how beautiful they are; you'll see that these signs sparkle like diamonds in the Arizona sun.
