Freeman Green is a small wedge of land that is dedicated to the memory of a man that lived next door, who turned this piece of forgotten space into what it is today, and kept it looking so great for many years. It turns out too that he was a bit of a legend around these parts.
Albert (Bill) Purvis Freeman (19/12/1922 - 20/2/2013) was a legendary Wellington rugby coach who guided the Wellington Lions to famous victories over the touring South Africans in 1965 and the British Lions in 1966. He truly was a man of vision who revolutionised the game and made rugby the flowing spectacle that it is today. “On the rise above the eyes” RIP Bill.
