Geocache Description:

Welcome to The Museum of Flight's Spaceflight Academy. Spaceflight is one of the most challenging human accomplishments. This geocache is not quite that challenging.

Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.

— Carl Sagan, Cosmos

In order to find this tricky geocache, you must first complete our related Geocaching Adventure. Follow those instructions as the Adventure leads you through the exhibit. The final stage is a physical container within the exhibit. Please allot about 2 hours to complete all of it. Sign the logbook and share your experiences about this extraordinary geocache. Online, please consider telling us:

  • something that you learned in the Academy
  • or your favorite exhibit
  • or a special memory you have about the Museum of Flight

The successful exploration of space's hostile environment requires courage, ingenuity, and perhaps most importantly, preparation. Here at Spaceflight Academy, you can explore what it takes to leave the Earth and set out into the solar system. You will also see how the first 50 years of spaceflight have helped us learn what it will take to make the next "Giant Leap."

UPDATE 12/9/2019: We've recently been getting a lot of messages that the final cache wasn't showing up after completing the stops on the adventure. These notices only started showing up this year. It may be that when we switched from a lab cache to the Geocaching Adventure app, the final directions got stripped from the adventure. We have restored the final hint to the cache, so it should be more straightforward to log now.
